Visit the World’s Greatest Wildlife Destinations

re1

Nothing compares to the once-in-a-lifetime moments you get to experience on a safari, wildlife cruise or National Park Hike. These moments, like watching a leopard stalk prey in Botswana or photographing a gaggle of penguins swimming in Antarctica, used to be nearly impossible (and expensive), since the areas were widely unchartered and remote. However, now, with more cruises and tours exploring these hidden wonders worldwide, there’s more chances than ever to watch wildlife dwell in their natural habitats. For the best viewing, visit one of these breathtaking destinations.

Churchill, Manitoba, Canada
Located on the rugged shores of Hudson Bay in Northern Manitoba, Churchill is one of the few human settlements in the world that is also home to polar bears. Since they spend most of their summer hunting for food, the best time to view them is during the fall. The optimal way to experience the beauty of these bears is with a custom tundra buggy, which offers once in a lifetime chances to get up close and personal, while still remaining safe.

Chobe National Park, Botswana, Africa
Chobe National Park in Botswana offers truly unspoilt views of Africa’s famed wildlife. On a game drive here, you won’t be met with other jeeps, but instead with views of warthogs, bushbucks, monkeys, lions, leopards and hyenas. A cruise along the breathtaking Chobe river offers a chance to see the marine mammals, like hippos and crocodiles.

Antarctica Peninsula
Although it may be void of any human life, Antarctica is home to one of the largest populations of penguins, with over 40 million spread across the continent. Once unchartered, Antarctica is growing in popularity, and more cruise lines are adding the snow-capped glacial peaks and emperor penguin colonies to their itineraries.

Galapagos Islands, Ecuador
This tiny archipelago off the coast of Ecuador has been an iconic destination for wildlife viewing for over 200 years. Thanks to more cruise lines charting the South American Coast, it’s much easier for anyone to view its many inhabitants, like the island iguanas, Blue-footed Boobies, giant green sea turtles, sea lions and more.

Great Barrier Reef, Australia
Stretching over 1,616 miles off the coast of Australia, the Great Barrier Reef, comprised of 3,000 individual reefs, 900 islands and thousands of species of marine creatures, is one of the world’s greatest wonders. See the sharks, turtles, fishes and vibrant coral up close with a snorkel or dive.

Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, United States
Aside from spewing geysers, gradient canyons and rushing waterfalls, Wyoming’s crowned jewel is also home to some of the country’s most spectacular wildlife. From black bears to bald eagles to bison and coyotes, this area is rich with a vast array of animals.

After the 2010 election the Burmese government changed significantly, making Burma a safe and appealing destination for travelers seeking somewhere new and authentic. Home to awe-inspiring religious monuments, charming colonial architecture and colorful street markets, there’s never been a better time to visit Yangon.

If you were only able to visit one place in Yangon, it would have to be the sacred site of 2,500-year-old Shwedagon Pagoda, where strands of Buddha’s hair and other relics are enshrined. Shwedagon is one of the most elaborate structures: the gold-plated pagoda stands at over 320ft and the top of the stupa is encrusted with 5,448 diamonds, 2,317 rubies, sapphires and other gems.

Make sure to wander the 2,000-odd shops at the Bogyoke Aung San Market, where you will find all the souvenirs you need. If you enjoy seafood and most Asian cuisine, then you will love the Chinese, Indian and Thai influences in Burmese cuisine. Be sure to try laphet thohk (green tea salad), made from pickled tea leaves; and mohinga, a bowl of rice noodles covered in delicious fish soup.

Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year is without a doubt the biggest (and most-adored) festival of the lunar calendar, with 15-days packed with age-old traditions, cultural festivities and family celebrations! Starting on the first day of the new year (31 January), right up until the Spring Lantern Festival (14 February), locals flock to aromatic temples to pray for good fortune, fill themselves with traditional foods and string up bright red lanterns.

Chinese New Year

In true Hong Kong style, the city will welcome the Year of the Horse with festive flamboyancy, timeless traditions and that unique touch of cosmopolitan flair! Festivities are spread out over three weeks, so whether you’re squeezing into festive flower markets and incense-filled temples, gasping at breathtaking pyrotechnics or cheering at lively sports events, you’ll be sure to experience a Chinese New Year here like no other!

Chinese New Year Celebrations

Know Before You Go

Learn how to say “Happy New Year” in Cantonese: Use the phrase “Keng Hei Fat Choy” profusely when encountering locals

Watch the fireworks: The rooftop at Marco Polo Hotel is a great spot to view the show over Victoria Harbor.

Shop till you drop: Hong Kong is a retail Mecca particularly known for antiques in the Hollywood and SoHo neighborhoods.

Visit the island of Landau: Only a 30-minute subway ride from central Hong Kong, you won’t want to miss the world’s largest outdoor bronze Buddha, the Po Lin Monastery and the sky tram ride for panoramic views of Tung Chung Bay and the Hong Kong skyline.

Amsterdam: Sustainable Travel At Its Finest

housing-amsterdam

Amsterdam has retained its appeal as a popular tourist destination for many years, drawing crowds with its canals, cafe culture and laid-back charm. It continues to assert itself as a cultural capital, with huge reinvestment in its museums and a popular street art scene. Despite being the capital and with a wealth of attractions, it’s a very manageable city to get around. Hire a bike, jump on a tram or buy a pass for the hop-on, hop-off boats that meander down the canals and get lost in the markets and various quarters.

AmsterTram

AmsterTram

There is no doubt that the lack of cars in Amsterdam contributes to the charm of the city. Due to the flat landscape, extensive bike paths and high cost of owning a car, the bike (and tram) rule here. A visit to the ‘Venice of the north’ will show any motorist that getting about in the city’s charming historic infrastructure is in fact made far easier (not to mention quicker) with the use of a bike.

Whether you are visiting the Van Gogh Museum, Vondelpark or the Nine Streets district, you can get there in a fashionably sustainable way! For more information on traveling to Amsterdam call our travel consultants today.
