Breaking Stereotypes and Building Friendships

Fun Times With New Friends!

Fun Times With New Friends!

What if I asked you to name 3 stereotypes of the Mexican, Russian, and Persian cultures? What if I then asked members of these different cultures to name 3 stereotypes of Americans? Would all these assumptions be accurate? Most likely not…

A beautiful part of travel is exploring new cultures and customs, different from your own. Opening up the mind to new experiences, food, music and ways of communicating.  Every new place I go reminds me that we all come from somewhere and when traveling are out of our cultural comfort zones. Once you get past the initial culture shock, it is actually quite freeing to be ‘outside’ your own cultural norms. Travel allows us to meet friends we may never otherwise have met, and see places we may never otherwise have seen. Most importantly, travel allows us to develop our own experiences with people and cultures that leave previous stereotypes by the way side. Let’s get out there and explore!
