If one town best epitomizes a college football experience, Ann Arbor takes the cake. The university of Michigan is home to the largest football stadium (and still expanding) with over 107,500 wolverine fans at every single game.
Most visiting fans congregate on main street or nearby state street, both lined with restaurants and bars. Also, nearby Kerrytown is home to eccentric shops and tasty eateries, an intimate concert hall and a fabulous farmers market. For arguably the best food in town, book a table at the Gandy Dancer, situated among cobblestone streets at the 1886 Michigan Central Rail Depot, and featuring a daily-changing menu.
Don’t forget to sample a chipati, a favorite local Michigan cuisine. Described by the university’s paper as “a pita-like choice combining a rather unusual tasting bread with equally unique and savory food stuffed inside,” this culinary staple alone is said to lure Michigan alums back to Ann Arbor. Sample a chipati at the Pizza House, known to fulfill late-night cravings, or Pizza Bob’s, where the ingenious creation was invented.
