Most sun-seeking Americans travel to Nevis ( Caribbean island) in the winter months. However, the island’s liveliest time is during their annual week long cultural celebrations in July. Culturama 2011 will take place during the Emancipation Day weekend which usually falls on the last week of July/ first week of August. According to the Nevis Department of Culture, the aim is to protect and encourage indigenous folklore, in order to make sure that the uniquely Caribbean culture can “reassert itself and flourish”.
What can a visitor expect to experience? Calypso music competitions, a Miss Culture Show, stilt walkers, masquerades, drama performances, cooking competitions and so much more! Check out the 2010 Culturama for more information!
