Berlin’s Mecca Of Art

museum-island-berlinThe fall of the the Berlin Wall in 1989 started a time of reinvention for Berlin. They started establishing themselves as  leaders of the arts through their architecture, art galleries and exhibits.

Berlin is on the front lines of where art is going today but they remain grounded to their roots, as well. A perfect example of Berlin’s dedication to honoring the past is the Museumsinsel (Museum Island). A truly spectacular sight for any art fanatic! This unique complex has five museums that offer some of Berlin’s greatest history and art showcases.

The Alte Nationalgalerie (Old National Gallery) is famous for its German and French Impressionist paintings. There is the the Altes Museum (Old Museum), showing antiquities from Greece an Rome,  and the Pergamonmuseumm, named after the 180 BC Greek temple it houses. My favorite, the Dahlem Museum, houses tribal artifacts from Asia, Africa, India and many other cultures. Don’t forget the unbelievable Gemäldegalerie (Picture Gallery ), presenting classic paintings by many great European masters, from Botticelli to Rembrandt. It’s an absolute must see!

Is this right up your alley? Well, contact us about a fabulous 8 day tour of Berlin,  Budapest and Krakow ( two other artsy hot spots!). It will quench even the greatest art lovers thirst!
