Family Vacation on O’ahu
Honolulu is all about culture, from the faces of its residents to the culinary mix of its restaurants.
This is why Hawaii’s capital city is so exciting for families. It is like visiting a foreign country, with the comforts of the U.S. Ok, then you have year-round warm temperatures and a combination of island style pasttimes and now it is great for all age groups. Our family is always drawn to the seas, and Honolulu gives us that great beach line. Our kids can surf, canoe or try the new craze of stand up paddling. The Atlantis Submarine gave us a view of marine life 100 feet under water. Then we checked out the Honolulu Zoo with Hawaiian native animals, a petting zoo and the Waikiki Aquarium which is home to sharks, coral, squid octopuses and endangered Hawaiian monk Seals. Bring a picnic and a frisbee and enjoy free music at the historic bandstand. Most hotels have free lessons on lei-making, hula shows and on how to play the ukulele. Later that week, we rented bikes and rode all over Waikiki then out to Diamond Head Crater. The views were amazing. Other top highlights include Pearl Harbor, The Polynesian Culture Center and Turtle Bay. We have experienced scenic nature hikes, and visits to local exhibits and art museums. Oahu just has so many fun things for families to enjoy.
